Binsto Privacy Principles

Thanks for visiting our Privacy Policy.  If you read nothing else, please read these principles:

  • The most fundamental privacy principle we follow is that by default, anything you post on Binsto is private to your groups of friends and families.  That is, viewing the information and messages shared within a specific group of friends and family members requires authentication as a member of that group.

  • Binsto is the custodian of data on behalf of the people who use Binsto. We don’t own personal communication data. Our members own their data. They like it that way and so do we.

  • Binsto instantly connects people, places and products everywhere, online and offline, to what’s most meaningful to our members.  Any registered user of Binsto can post a message to selected Binsto people that include other content like photos, comments, notes, keywords and links to other websites.

  • At Binsto we believe that more control and transparency is better than less. We try to make our product easy to use, with settings and options that are easy to find and understand. This is good for privacy, good for the product, and good for Binsto customers and users.

  • We believe in the wisdom of crowds and think that having more information is easily accessible and searchable wherever you go is better than having less. So this is how we built Binsto. Users can create private or public items and bins to share information or other content.  As an item or bin owner you are provided with administrative privileges and may select whom you want to view and share photos and related details of items and bins.  Owners and Members can change these settings but we want you to know where we stand.

  • Privacy goes hand in glove with security, safety, and confidentiality. We see these concerns being the four legs that keep a chair balanced, sturdy and upright. Each is as important as the other and if one is missing the chair won’t stand. They are all very important to us and we take them very seriously.

Binsto Privacy Policy

This privacy policy is here to help you understand what information we collect at Binsto, how we use it, and what choices you have. This policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you register for and use Binsto.

When we talk about Binsto in this policy, we are talking about Binsto, Inc., the company, Binsto, the downloadable mobile application, and the Binsto website at www.binsto.com.   We know you care about your personal information; we take your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your privacy.  In keeping with these principles, please read the following to learn more about our policy.

Please remember that your use of the Services is at all times subject to the Terms of Use, which incorporates this policy and our Community Guidelines. Any terms we use in this policy without defining them have the definitions given to them in the Terms of Use.

Information We Collect and Store

In order to provide you with our services, we collect certain information from you when you register and interact with Binsto. The information we gather falls into two categories: information you actively provide (for example, when you create an account), and information we collect through your use of our services.

  • Registration and Profile Information. The only information we require to create your Binsto account is an email address and password or alternatively your third-party account credentials (for example, your log-in credentials for Facebook or other third party sites). Optional information you can enter into your profile includes your first and last name, location, and telephone number. You may also provide additional information such as a profile picture, gender, and birth month and day.

  • Contacts. With your permission, we may collect from your mobile address book contacts, including names, telephone numbers, email addresses, and social media account information, if available.

  • Information You Post. We collect information or other content that you may post using Binsto (such as text, photos, videos, places, products you like, and friends you are with) or actions that you take using Binsto (such as commenting on friends’ content, changing your profile picture, or connecting to third-party apps). We collect this information whether you post it directly to Binsto or via a third-party service. When you post things like photos or videos on Binsto, we may receive additional related data (referred to as ‘metadata’), such as the time, date, and place you took the photo or video.

  • Other Services. We receive information when you choose to connect social media or other third party accounts and applications with your account, including a token to authenticate your identity between these accounts.

  • Communications. We receive the messages you send to and receive from other users of Binsto. We also will receive any communications between you and Binsto relating to our services. We may communicate with you if you’ve provided us the means to do so. For example, if you have provided us your email address, we may email you about your use of the Services, when friends comment on one of your posts or if they join an item or bin you created, or promotional email offers on behalf of Binsto partners businesses. Also, we may receive a confirmation when you open an email from us. This confirmation helps us to improve our services and to make our communications with you more relevant and interesting. If you do not want to receive communications from us, please indicate your preference by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of the emails.

We will also retain any information as required by law. Comments or emotions you make on content shared by others, or messages you send, may also remain visible to other users after you delete your account.

Your Preferences

When you use Binsto, you have control over a number of things with respect to your own privacy and choices about how your content is visible to others or not. If you are a Binsto item or bin owner, you have additional choices that impact your privacy. Some members will not have access to all of the same choices that their item’s, bin’s and band’s owner(s) or other member(s) do. That is because Binsto is set up to be collaborative and group-oriented, and provides owners with the maximum ability to control their items and bins.

Our Services allow you to manage certain sharing preferences, including the automatic sharing of your posts with others. For example, you may choose to not share photos or your items or bins by keeping them private or you may specifically select the friends who you would like to invite to view your items and bins.  Please carefully use Binsto and review your account settings.  For example, your posts will automatically share the location of your photos with other Binsto people.

Our settings may allow you to modify your privacy preferences.  If you do not wish to receive notifications from others, you may opt out by enabling “Privacy” in Edit Settings on your Profile.  Our settings may also allow you to modify your communications preferences. If you do not wish to receive promotional email messages from Us, you may opt out by following the unsubscribe instructions in those emails. If you opt out, you will still receive non-promotional emails from us about your account and our services.

Choices for Item and Bin Owners and Members

  • Members are have administrative privileges and have the ability to manage and change most of the item and bin settings, including inviting guest members, and can modify whether or when guest members can edit or delete photos. Members can also deactivate guest member access for their item and bin.

  • Only a primary owner can deactivate or delete an item or bin.

  • For more about these privileges and permissions, see our Help Center.
